How to Plan a Furniture Layout
A useful furniture layout balances function, circulation, proportion, and available floor area. Start with the largest furniture pieces, such as a sofa, bed, dining table, or desk, then arrange smaller items around them.
This planner provides a simple top-down workspace for experimenting with approximate furniture sizes before moving real furniture or making a purchase.
Measure the room
Record the usable length and width of the room before placing furniture.

Place the sofa, bed, dining table, or other dominant furniture first.
Protect circulation
Avoid filling all available floor space. Leave practical walking routes around furniture.
Verify real dimensions

Why Furniture Dimensions Matter
Furniture names alone do not describe the amount of space they use. Two sofas, dining tables, or desks may have significantly different dimensions. This planner starts with representative default sizes, but you can edit the length and width of each selected piece.
Leave Room to Move Around Furniture
Floor area that is technically empty may still be required for walking, opening doors and drawers, pulling out chairs, or accessing storage. A layout should therefore consider clearances, not just whether furniture physically fits inside the room.
What This Planner Does Not Measure
This simplified tool does not automatically model radiators, outlets, vents, columns, built-in furniture, sloped walls, structural features, exact door swings, accessibility standards, or manufacturer-specific installation clearances.
Always verify the real room, furniture, doorways, and access routes before purchasing or moving large furniture.

Can I change the size of a furniture item?
Yes. Select a furniture piece in the room and edit its approximate length and width in the selected-item panel.
Can I rotate furniture?
Yes. Selected furniture can be rotated by 90 degrees, which swaps its visual orientation inside the room.
Does the planner prevent furniture from overlapping?
It allows experimentation and highlights approximate overlaps, but it should not be treated as a precision CAD or architectural space-planning system.
Are the furniture sizes exact?
No. The library uses representative starting dimensions. Actual products vary, so replace the default dimensions with the real furniture measurements whenever possible.
Can I use this as a professional interior-design plan?
No. It is a simplified planning tool intended for preliminary visualization and does not replace professional interior, architectural, accessibility, or construction planning.
